Our theoretical perspective and model absolutely relates to me in multiple ways. As a group we all came up with the theoretical model by putting all of each others input and feedback together collectively in order to come up with the final model. The theoretical model depicts what the team should be composed of, the team goals, and team procedures that should be in place for a successful team.
This theoretical model can be applied personally in working on the job in a team type atmosphere. I will be working construction on the job sites witch will need high communication and teamwork skills without doubt. As a carpenter working construction I need to be able to lead and advise small crews. I must posses the skills to inform and guide them on the job. The job involves working in a team type atmosphere. I must be proficient in collaborating with a team and communicating with others on the job. I possess outstanding problem solving skills. For both my work experience of construction and working for Cinnabon it entailed knowledge of on the spot ideas to improve safety and to make the job easier. I also have to have experience in finding solutions for increasing the performance of the team or myself and to improve the customer’s experience.
All of these characteristics and responsibilities of working as a carpenter relate directly to our theoretical model and perspective. The composition needs to have some diversity or culture, good team abilities, and a high performance within the team. I can relate to these because in order to run a profitable business with a thriving atmosphere there needs to be professional workers in all types of cultures and diversities. For example the roofers and carpenters have completely have a whole diverse set of ethnic backgrounds. Everyone brought their own certain skill set to the table to make the diverse atmosphere needed. Since I am working with a whole lot of trained professionals that are extremely knowledgeable at their careers we all need to have the abilities and skills necessary to get the job accomplished. Also, since everyone is trained at a high level we all need to perform our abilities with high performance. While building a house for a customer, they will be expecting their house to be completed to nothing but perfection. This is why they are paying us the big bucks for one of their biggest investments of their life.
In all the situations I have been involved with having a good set of team goals is essential. It has been very imperative to stay organized, responsible, and have good task roles to succeed. These team characteristics applied to when working at Cinnabon. We needed to stay organized with all of the food orders. It was especially busy during the times when it got very hectic around the early mornings and lunch times. It was located at the mall so everyone would have to stop by for a coffee and a classic Cinnabon after a long day of shopping. I have come to the realization that every employee needs to be responsible in order to run a thriving business. If nobody shows up to work on time or at all the company would not run properly.
Another characteristic that is essential to having a high performance team is having great team procedures. I have had to apply being able to keep records, meeting the deadlines, and good communication. While working at Cinnabon I had to keep record of the hourly cash balances of the cashier to know what the profits of the day were. Also I need to make the deadline for construction because of what the contract entails. Communication is also a big part of all team atmospheres and jobs in the future and past. Leadership is also a main thing that needs to be incorporated but that goes without saying. It is hard to be successful in a group or team if there is not any leadership.
This digital media project was very unique in my opinion. It forces the group to work together as a team to come up with the joint theoretical model of what a team needs to be successful. Most of the groups I have been apart of were not very similar, but this project and theoretical model will most definitely help me in the future, as I will apply it in my forthcoming teams. In the past I have been apart of a lot of teams so having done a project that actually analyzes what a team should be composed of and what the essentials are to a thriving team will surely prove to be quite useful in future occasions.
